In response to the multiple incidents of racism against Black Americans, in early June our CEO Mark Clouse shared a message of support for our Black colleagues at Campbell. In addition to expressing outrage at the killing of George Floyd and our commitment to creating space and understanding for our Black colleagues, Mark reiterated his commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive culture at Campbell where all employees feel safe, heard and valued.
As part of that commitment, last week, we shared with employees a new, actionable Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) strategy with key objectives and metrics.
A holistic approach to Inclusion and Diversity
Together, we will continue to build a company where all employees can be real, and feel safe, valued and supported to do their best work. To do this, we are focusing on three key areas:
Supporting organizations that raise awareness, advance education, and fight racism and discrimination
As part of our work, we are pledging $1.5 million of financial support over three years to nonprofit organizations fighting racism and discrimination as another way to strengthen our ally networks and our hometowns. The Campbell Soup Foundation worked with the leaders of our Black Resource Group (one of our Employee Resource Groups) and our I&D team to identify organizations that are making an impact supporting the Black community. We are making a $400,000 contribution to the Equal Justice Initiative and $100,000 to the Boris L. Henson Foundation. We’re proud to support organizations working to eradicate injustice and support the mental health of Black people across the United States. To further our company support, we created the BRG Social Justice Fund that will include the above organizations along with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Black Girls Code and the National Urban League. Any Campbell employee donation to this fund will be matched at 100% from the Campbell Soup Foundation.
Additionally, our Canadian colleagues have also funded Black Health Alliance and Black Business and Professional Association, supporting specific initiatives around scholarships and food.
