CAMDEN, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sep. 24, 2009– Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) today announced the nominations of Lawrence C. Karlson and Archbold D. van Beuren for election to its Board of Directors at the company’s annual meeting of shareowners, which will be held on Nov. 19, 2009.
Karlson will succeed George Strawbridge, 71, who will retire from the Board after 22 years of service. Van Beuren will succeed David C. Patterson, 61, who will retire from the Board after seven years of service.
Karlson, 66, was Chairman and CEO of Berwind Financial Corporation from 2001 to 2004. He served as Chairman of Spectra-Physics AB from 1990 to 1993 and President and CEO of Pharos AB from 1986 until its acquisition by Spectra-Physics in 1990. In addition to his executive roles, Karlson brings substantial board experience to Campbell. He is currently a director of CDI Corporation and H&E Equipment Services Inc., and has previously served on the boards of AmeriSourceBergen, Interlogix, Inc. and Meridian Bank Corporation. Karlson earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Ryerson University and his M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Van Beuren, 52, has been Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer of Campbell since 2007. Mr. van Beuren began his career with the company in 1983 and served in various positions of increasing responsibility, including serving as President of a division that included businesses in Canada, Mexico, Latin America and North America Foodservice from 2005 to 2007 and President of Godiva Chocolatier, Inc. from 1999 to 2005. He is the great grandson of John T. Dorrance, the founder of the company. He has resigned as an executive of Campbell effective Oct. 1, 2009. Van Beuren earned his B.A. degree from Yale and his M.B.A. degree in finance from Columbia University.
